Joy to the World

Did u guys recently read in the news about the dog that was so cruelly beaten in Kepong Industrial Park by a bunch of Indonesian workers? I simply cannot stomach animal cruelty for one, and strongly believe that the punishment for cruelty to animals should equal that of the similar criminal acts done to humans. The only lesser an animal is to man is that they cannot speak for or defend themselves. But at least they do not attack for fun or for prize like mankind. What is this world coming to...

Dog cruelly beaten by workers
Sabrina YeapDec 15, 06 5:01pm

I was driving to the animal shelter farm that I manage in Kundang when I saw a dog with his jaw dangling and tongue hanging out sitting at the entrance of the Ki-Park Sri Utara construction site, which is about 10 km from the Batu Caves roundabout, heading towards Sungai Buloh and Kepong. I stopped my car to check on the dog. As I approached the dog, two eye-witnesses told me they saw Indonesian workers repeatedly calling the dog ‘haram’ as they cruelly attacked it. These eye-witnesses pleaded with me to help the dog. I took the dog, subsequently named Joy, to the veterinary clinic. Joy’s lower jaw was so badly crushed it had to be removed. Her tongue was covered in sand and had lacerations and blood clots all over it. My friend, Shoba Mano of the Remembering Sheena Campaign wrote to Kok Pick Tong, one of the four managing directors of Kepong Industrial Park (KIP) Group which employs the workers that ill-treated Joy. I clearly stated we were are not interested in the KIP Group identifying and punishing Joy’s attackers. That is for the department of veterinary services to do as the law gives them the authority to prosecute animal abusers. We instead were seeking the developer’s permission to educate the workers on the ethical treatment of all animals because we don’t want this incident repeated. We also requested that KIP Group pay for Joy’s medical expenses and for his food and maintenance at the Furry Friends Farm to show that corporations in Malaysia are not just money-making machines that don’t care whom and what they devour in order to make their profits. I did not receive any response to my letter or phone calls. Recently. I and other animal lovers gathered at a restaurant at Batu Caves to protest the beating of Joy. Dr Habeeb Rahman Ibramsa of the International Islamic University in Gombak, Selangor, was also present at the restaurant. He denounced this beating as un-Islamic . Sherrina Krishnan of the Independent Pet Rescuers was also present. The Independent Pet Rescuers is a group of individual good Samaritans who pick strays off the streets and re-home them through our adoption programmes. We see a great need for education in Malaysia on issues concerning animal welfare. People are not taught that pets are for life and should not be dumped when they tire of them. They don’t understand the need for spaying. They don’t understand how much animals enrich our lives because they treat their pets so poorly. Haji Abdul Rahim Abdul Kapur, a company director present at the gathering, agreed with me that there was a dire need for education on animal welfare. He said we needed the government to support effective education programmes run by animal welfare groups. The Malaysian society cannot do it alone. Shoba has written to the Housing and Local Government parliamentary secretary Dr S Subramaniam, who had invited at least 30 NGOs and interested parties for a meeting at the ministry in February this year to discuss the issue of dogs and strays. To date, we haven’t seen anything being done to improve the lives of dogs or any other animal. Joy can now only eat soft food for the rest of her life as she has lost her lower jaw and teeth. What happened to Joy should never happen again. Anyone who would like to learn how to help Joy or the Furry Friends Farm may contact the Remembering Sheena Campaign at remembersheena@gmail.com.

Poor, poor doggie. Thank goodness someone found her and brought her to immediate medical attention. Can you imagine the immense pain and suffering she would have gone thru if she was left to fend on her own? Sigh... Think about all those doggies who have gone through acts of cruelty but have not been rescued like Joy...

Thank God for...

GODIVA !!!

Someone's been stuffing herself with these expensive chocolates, hasnt she? Haha...now the other person also wants some and has instructed someone to buy some for her (since i doubt we can get them on this side of the causeway) : P

If u have a craving, click here for a store locator. Sorry, i've checked : ) None in Malaysia. Am not too sure about the airports though.
Apparently the name GODIVA was taken from a noblewoman sometime during the 9th century AD. who, according to legend, rode naked through the streets of Coventry in England in order to gain a remission of the oppressive toll imposed by her husband on his tenants. The name "peeping Tom" for a voyeur comes from versions of this legend in which someone called Tom saw her ride and was struck blind.
See? The most irresistable things are always associated with women. That's why WE RULE!!!

Goo goo ga ga?

I so, so wanna watch Littleman. I loved White Chicks to death and im sure i will love this show : ) I know several people who watched White Chicks more than 5 times, including my own co-blogger hehe. I mean, who can help it? The Wayan brothers are seriously nuttier than any siblings you can see in show biz these days (and i don't mean Paris-Nikki or Jessica-Ashlee nutty) I still remember weeks after we watched that stupid movie, we were dancing like Latrell during our Christmas eve clubbing session. Absolutely mad. In my personal opinion, White Chicks was the funniest movie ever made. And til today, the record still stands in my books ; )

I don't know bout u guys, but i think that these guys seriously have talent. These are the brothers who directed, co-wrote and starred in the Scary Movies that almost spooked the laughing gas out of everyone. Would you even think about spoofing so many different horror movies in such a non-sensical manner? Best part is - it actually gels into a continuous story.

Brilliant!

She loves rodents

My sister has had mini hamsters, or if called by their proper name - Russian Dwarf hamsters for as long as i can remember : ) They're adorable little creatures but can be quite vicious - they have a mean bite and can pounce on your finger like little tigers. These variety of hamsters don't multiply as fast as the normal big ones and aren't as stupid as the big ones (she's kept both types before). With the big hamsters, its like the Lights are on but nobody's home... However, we've seen quite a few multiplications at home and especially recently. Currently there are four large cages of those lil critters, separated by gender so they don't mate again ; )
They're not very photogenic, being so small and all - but they have their moments. Check these out ; )

don't eat us, we're innocent !

England vs Italy ?

An Italian man wants a job, but the foreman won't hire him until he passes a little maths test

"Here's your first question," the foreman said.
"Without using numbers, represent the number 9."

"Without numbers?" the Italian says, "Data easy." and he proceeds to draw three trees.

"What's this?" the boss asks.

"Ave you got no brain? Tree and tree and tree makea nine," says the Italian.

"Fair enough," says the boss. "Here's your second question. Use the same rules, but this time the number is 99."

The Italian stares into space for a while, then picks up the picture that he has just drawn and makes a smudge on each tree.
"Ere you go."

The boss scratches his head and says, "How on earth do you get that to represent 99?"

"Each of da trees isa dirtynow. So, it's dirty tree, and dirty tree, and dirty tree. Dat is 99."

The boss is getting worried that he's going to actually have to hire this Italian, so he says,
"All right, last question. Same rules again, but represent the number 100."

The Italian stares into space some more, then he picks up the picture again and makes a little mark at the base of each tree and says, "Ere you go. One hundred."

The boss looks at the attempt.
"You must be nuts if you think that represents a hundred!"

(You're going to love this one!!!)

The Italian leans forward and points to the marks at the base of each tree and says,
"A little doga came along and crapa by eacha tree. So now you gota dirty tree and a turd, dirty tree and a turd, and dirty tree and a turd, data makea one hundred. So, when Ia start?

thanks to Liyen for the forwarded source of this joke ; )

And the Letter of the Day is...

the letter G
The letter G is the seventh letter in the Latin alphabet. Its name in English is gee (jē, IPA [dʒi:]). The letter G was created by the Romans because they felt that C was not an adequate letter to represent both /k/ and /g/. The recorded originator of the letter G is Spurius Carvilius Ruga, who taught around 230 BC.
Ever realise how the letter G is regularly used ? Like, in G-force, G-string, G-mail, G-spot *heh*, G Band...
There also appear to be a variety of ways to pronounce the letter G for example "Jee" (as in allergy) , "Jhui" (chinese version of it) or "Ghh" (as in groundnuts).
Even bands adopt the much-used letter like the bands G Unit, G4, Kenny G (oops, that's his name urp), and lesser known bands such as G Love And Special Sauce, G Matos Rodrigoez, G Spot and G-strings. Pardon me if you've heard of them, i havent and that's why i term them "lesser known" on this blog : )
In UK, there are even G Factor Finalists for a Godiva Festival. If you ask me, the only thing i know about Godiva is that they are one of the yummiest things alive. I mean, dead. Beats me what G Factor is. I've only heard of the F Factor, ie. Fear Factor : )
The letter G was also not left out in playing a part as one of the musical keys (being A to G), leading to a variety of classical compositions which involved the usage of this key, be it in the major or minor version. Examples (i have given everything back to the piano so don't even begin to ask me to recite the list of famous works by these composers) Beethoven's G major Piano Sonata, Mozart's Symphony in G Minor, JS Bach's Fantasy in G Minor, Tchaikovsky's Piano Sonata in G major, Haydn's Symphony No. 88 in G Major (im not making these up, okay) and so on and so forth.
If the letter G has Grown on you so much so that you thirst to know more (God forsake) about this mysterious alphabet, please click here.
Now, isn't that interesting ? And you thought it was just another frequently mis-pronounced letter ; )
